Introduction

The development of new rugs in disease therapy is focused on targeting molecules involved in the growth and death of cells in attracting attention to immunotherapy. In the control and treatment of disease, classical drugs, which have been used for a long time, are still widely used as primary selective drugs. Recent attention has been paid to the role of dietary factors. This is both an old and new method of disease control. Based on epidemiological findings, it has been accumulated many pieces of knowledge that various chemicals as medical food factors are involved in various types of diseases including cancer, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and osteoporosis. Moreover, new derivatives related functional food factors have been synthesized from the original factors, and those that exert strong effects on disease control and therapy have been developed as new drugs. They are considered to be useful for effective disease treatment with low toxicity and are expected as new drugs. In recent years, it have been reported many findings. This thematic issue features some of those findings
