Introduction
The major topic is the functionalization of heterocycles through catalyzed C-H bond activation. The strategies based on C-H activation not only provide straightforward formation of C-C or C-X bonds but, more importantly, allow for the avoidance of pre-functionalization of one or two of the cross-coupling partners. The beneficial impact of those strategies on the development of the field of organic chemistry over the last 20 years is beyond description. More specifically, the functionalization of known heterocycles is a useful tool for the preparation of new derivatives that can be utilized in material chemistry or medicine. We are interested in reviews and research protocols based on the catalyzed C-H activation providing the functionalization of heterocycles. Moreover, all kinds of variations, like C-H bond activation regarding the removal of other functional groups leading to the formation of C-C bonds and C-X bond formation through C-H bond activation, are within the scope of this issue.
