Abstract
A mixture of ethyl acetoacetate and various aldehydes in the presence of ammonium salts was converted to Hantzsch ethyl 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethylpyridine-3,5-dicarboxylates under mild and green conditions with good to excellent yields.
