Formerly, he was Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Universiti Sains Malaysia (2004-2008), and Visiting Professor at Technische Unversitaet Muenchen in (2002. He was the adviser for Aerospace Affairs to the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia in 1998. He worked as a faculty at Texas A&M University. In 2001, he joined the School of Information and Communication Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University. His primary research interests are nonlinear and optimal control, radio resource management in wireless communication, adaptive optimization methods in nonlinear process, and estimation theory.

Dr. Xu joined USi in 2007 as an Electronic Development Engineer. Presently, he holds a position of senior research engineer. Prior to joining USi, he did research in the areas of solid dielectric cables and nonlinear grading materials. Dr. Xu has authored and co-authored numerous papers in these fields. Currently, his research interests are mechanical and thermal property study of Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced cables, development of dynamic line rating systems and wireless intelligent devices, overhead line and underground cable real-time monitoring.
