Abstract

Biomaterials have emerged as promising tools in the field of neuroprotection, offering innovative approaches for the treatment of neurological disorders and injuries. This review provides an overview of the role of biomaterials in neuroprotection, focusing on their advancements in drug delivery systems, neural tissue engineering, bioactive coatings, and implants. We explore the mechanisms of action of biomaterials and their potential to enhance neuroprotection. Additionally, we discuss the preclinical evaluation of biomaterials, the use of animal models, and their translation to clinical applications. The future perspective highlights emerging trends, including nanotechnology, smart biomaterials, and the integration of biomaterials with cellbased therapies. These advancements, along with considerations of ethics, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness, hold great promise for advancing neuroprotective interventions and improving outcomes for patients with neurological conditions.

Keywords: Biomaterials, neuroprotection, drug delivery, tissue engineering, preclinical evaluation, animal models.
