Abstract

This chapter provides a brief outline of the characteristics and applications
of graphene as a support in different heterogeneous catalytic processes. Graphene, an
allotrope of carbon having two-dimensional hexagonal arrangements, is an easily
available and low-cost support for various catalytic conversions. The high surface area,
thermal and chemical stability, lattice arrangement, defects, etc., are the fundamental
structural contributions of graphene as support in heterogeneous catalysis. Synthesis of
graphene and binding of one or more metal nanoparticles on it has been achieved via
different well-established methodologies that are highlighted here. Modifications in
graphene with numerous physical and chemical methods have enhanced its overall
activity and selectivity as support.
